Mimetogen is developing small molecule mimetics of neurotrophins to treat diseases of both the back and front of the eye where there are currently large unmet medical needs.
The company’s neurotrophin mimetics target retinal ganglion cell protection in glaucoma; the stimulation of mucin production in dry eye; and the protection of retinal pigmented epithelial cells in retinitis pigmentosa. Additinoally, the company has discovered novel gene and protein targets to treat glaucoma.
Animal proof of concept studies have been completed for two compounds in glaucoma and four compounds in both dry eye and retinitis pigmentosa. Lead compound assessment will culminate in the first IND in 2009.
